Ex-Cards Coleman, Mcgee Share Gloves In Center Field
NEW YORK - It's nice to share with your guests, and that's just what New York Mets center fielder Vince Coleman is doing this weekend.
About 20 gloves were stolen from the San Francisco clubhouse at Shea Stadium on Friday, including all three belonging to Giants center fielder Willie McGee.
McGee and Coleman, longtime teammates with the St. Louis Cardinals, use the same model. They shared the same glove on Friday and yesterday, and will likely do so today.
After the top of the first inning, Coleman left his blue-colored glove on the grass in center field for McGee to pick up on his way out.
"That was the first time I ever did that," Coleman said. "Willie didn't have his glove and we use the same kind."
McGee, a three-time Gold Glove winner, made a career-high 16 errors last season. He has committed one error in 18 games this
season.
