Teams Search For Missing Hunter, 17

AP

TYGH VALLEY, Ore. - About 100 volunteers spent yesterday searching a remote section of Wasco County for a 17-year-old hunter who has been missing for five days.

Corey Fay of Sherwood was last seen Saturday in the Badger Woods Wilderness Area of the Mount Hood National Forest, about 10 miles west of Tygh Valley.

Searchers found a set of tracks Wednesday night that appeared to be one to two days old, search coordinator Roger Pearce said. A team of searchers followed the tracks through the night and was replaced by another team that continued the effort yesterday.

Still, there was no confirmed evidence that the tracks were those of the missing youth.

Temperatures dipped into the 20s Wednesday night. Pearce said some searchers had to abandon their efforts because they were showing signs of hypothermia.

Sheriff Art Labrousse said it is believed to be the biggest search effort ever in Wasco County.
