Bothell Bowler Hamilton Wins First Pba Title
PEORIA, Ill. - Bothell's Bruce Hamilton won his first Professional Bowlers Association title yesterday, beating Amleto Monacelli of Venezuela 224-180 in the final of the $200,000 True Value Open.
Hamilton earned the $40,000 top prize and a berth in April's Firestone Tournament of Champions in Fairlawn, Ohio.
The final game was tied through six frames before Hamilton took the lead for good as Monacelli left the 4-7-10 split and failed to convert. Hamilton finished the game with five consecutive strikes.
"I was focused and prepared mentally to come out and do what I did today," Hamilton said. "It makes me feel good because of all the work I put in these last couple of years. I think all the hard work finally paid off."
Monacelli, the defending champion, would have become the PBA's eighth millionaire with a victory. He earned $22,000 instead.
