Family Learns The Hole Truth
WOODINVILLE - Everyone from a Los Angeles radio D.J. to a talent coordinator for the David Letterman show wanted to talk to Gerri and Leroy Cinnamon two weeks ago.
But this week the Cinnamons got the call they were really waiting for - from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Cinnamons attracted national attention after a frozen chunk of toilet waste from a leaky airplane crashed into their living room of their Woodinville home as they watched television.
No one was hurt, but the blue-colored waste smashed a hole in the roof, fouled the carpet and frightened the family cat. And the Cinnamons went through several hours of terror while emergency workers considered the possibility that it might have been a radioactive meteor, which could have contaminated the house.
On Thursday, the FAA called the Cinnamons with the news that the waste came from a United Airlines DC-10 flying from Chicago to Seattle on its way to Hawaii, Gerri Cinnamon said. "It had previously had plumbing problems, and obviously wasn't fixed," she said.
Cinnamon said the FAA told her the plane's leaky waste tank has been repaired again and pressure-tested to make sure it works. The Cinnamons' insurance is paying for roof repairs and installation of a skylight in the hole left by the frozen waste.
The Cinnamons have gotten a few calls from a talent coordinator for the David Letterman show, who wanted to put them on the late-night comedy show paired with a couple from New York whose car was destroyed by a meteor from space the week before.
But the Letterman show hasn't made an offer, and Cinnamon isn't sure she'd take it if they did.
