Young Russian Sailor Still Missing Here

Times Staff: Times News Services

The young Russian sailor who apparently did not want to return to the motherland when his ship sailed from Seattle Nov. 30 is still missing.

Andrei Rogov, press attache to the Russian Federation Counsel General's office in San Francisco, said yesterday the whereabouts of Alexei Sviridov, 18, of Moscow, is still unknown.

Sviridov was absent when the Marshal Krylov, a missile-tracking vessel, left Pier 42 where it was berthed after arriving seven days earlier as part of a goodwill stop in Seattle.

Sviridov visited with a Seattle family and returned to the ship Nov. 27. Later that day, he was reported missing.

The investigation has been turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, according to police.
