HILLSBORO, Ore. - A man accused of killing three women is a suspect in three more slayings in Washington County and in unsolved crimes in Washington and Florida, according to court documents.
Cesar Barone, 32, is charged with aggravated murder in the slayings of nurse-midwife Martha Bryant, 41, on Oct. 9, and Dantee Oshita, 23, on Dec. 30. He also is charged with murder in the death of Betty Lou Williams, 51, on Jan. 6.
Barone now is a suspect in the Sept. 23 slaying of Elizabeth Wasson, 83, of Hillsboro, and the strangulation of Margaret Schmidt, 61, of Hillsboro in April 1991, according to court documents. Barone also is a suspect in the Feb. 4 death of Joyce Scarbrough, 61, of Hillsboro, his former mother-in-law.
"Cesar Barone has been an extremely active and mobile serial killer," sheriff's detective Michael O'Connell said in an affidavit. "It appears he has been involved in crimes in the states of Florida, Washington and Oregon." Police will not release details regarding crimes outside Oregon until more investigating has been done.
