Renton Teen Arrested In Gang-Related Shooting
A 17-year-old Renton resident was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with the shooting death of a Franklin High School senior.
Maun Louie, 18, of Beacon Hill died yesterday morning from bullet wounds suffered in a 3 a.m. shoot-out that police said broke out between rival gang members.
Louie was a front-seat passenger in a parked car on 13th Avenue South and South Hudson Street when a dark-colored sedan stopped alongside, police said. There was an exchange of gunfire, and Louie was struck twice.
The driver took Louie to the Veterans Administration Hospital. He was then transferred to Harborview Medical Center. Louie died of neck and chest wounds about seven hours after the shooting.
Police arrested the 17-year-old suspect in his Renton home and are looking for another suspect who may have been injured in the shoot-out, police spokeswoman Vinette Tichi said. The sedan was found abandoned with several bullet holes in the door and blood on a seat, indicating someone was struck.
Several guns have been recovered from the two parties in the shooting.
Police said they have no motive for the shooting, but said it could have been revenge for the firebombing of a Beacon Hill home Monday. A Molotov cocktail was thrown against a wall at a home in the 2000 block of 19th Avenue South, causing $95,000 damage. The occupants, two adults and two teenagers, escaped unhurt.
Family members said Louie went out with several friends Wednesday night to attend a friend's birthday party. Louie had friends who were gang members, but wasn't a gang member himself, his older brother said.
"He was a good, fun person. Principals and teachers liked him," he said. "He was very creative. He sketched a lot and drew everything."
Louie was born in China and moved to Seattle with his family in 1980. He planned to join the Marines after graduating from Franklin High School.
