Fed. Way School Head Gets Extension, Raise
FEDERAL WAY - At the end of his second year as school superintendent, Tom Vander Ark, who left private industry to lead the 21,000-student district, was awarded a three-year contract extension, a raise and high praise from the School Board this week.
On Monday, the board agreed to give Vander Ark $119,564 a year until June 1999, or about a 3 percent increase.
Among the results that board members praised were Vander Ark's plan to raise graduation requirements, his relationship with the community and the reduction of administrative costs.
