No Complaint To Be Filed In Jail Death
AUBURN - The family of a woman who committed suicide at the Auburn jail in May will not file a complaint against jail staffers.
Amy L. Edgington, 41, of Sequim hanged herself at the jail May 26, two days after she was removed from a suicide watch. She had been serving a 90-day sentence for obstructing an officer when she tore up a cotton towel and hanged herself from a grate in her cell.
Her family had contended, among other things, that the jail staff failed to notice her heroin-withdrawal symptoms.
An inquest examining events surrounding the death was held in August, and jurors found no foul play in the death. The King County Prosecutor's Office also cleared the staff last month.
