Caffe Appassionato Plans Eight New Coffeehouses

Seattle Times Staff: Seattle Times News Services

SEATTLE - The Seattle-based Caffe Appassionato specialty-coffee chain plans to open three new coffeehouses in the Seattle area and five others nationwide.

The openings are part of the 6-year-old, privately held company's goal to set up 350 franchised and company-owned stores across the country by 2001, President and founder Phil Sancken said. The eight new stores will bring the chain's total to 23 company-owned, franchised and licensed coffeehouses.

In April, a new Caffe Appassionato will open on the ground floor of the Galer Gardens building at Queen Anne Avenue North and West Galer Street. Another store is set to open in May at the Lions Gate development in Redmond, 8303 160th Ave. N.E. And a store is expected to open this summer in Edmonds, with the location being negotiated.

Stores also are planned this year in Laguna, Calif.; Salem, Mass.; Dallas/Fort Worth; Bend, Ore.; and Bethesda, Md.
