Extradition Waived For Two Suspects

BOTHELL - Marty Malone and Jonathan Curtis, charged in the slaying of Malone's ex-husband in Bothell earlier this month, waived extradition proceedings in Phoenix yesterday and will be transferred to Snohomish County.

Bill FitzGerald, spokesman for the Maricopa County Prosecutor's Office in Phoenix, said the two suspects did not appear with attorneys at a hearing in Maricopa County Superior Court. Both were being held in the county jail there without bail.

Malone, 43, and Curtis, 45, are charged with aggravated first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Steven Ver Woert on Feb. 4 in his Bothell trailer home.

Charges filed earlier this week in Snohomish County Superior Court accuse Malone of hiring Curtis to kill her ex-husband for his insurance and company pension. Ver Woert worked for Sprint PCS in Redmond.

FitzGerald also said Maricopa County will not file additional charges against Malone for her alleged attempt to pay a Bothell detective $75,000 to kill Curtis.
