Hewlett-Packard Closes Acquisition Of Heartstream

Seattle Times Staff: Seattle Times News Services

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Hewlett-Packard said yesterday it completed its acquisition of Seattle-based Heartstream, a maker of portable heart defibrillators.

The deal was valued at about $140 million in stock when it was announced late last year. Heartstream, which makes automatic external defibrillators, will become part of Hewlett-Packard's cardiology-products division, based in Andover, Mass. Heartstream's operations will remain in Seattle.

Hewlett-Packard's medical-products division has been expanding into portable defibrillators, and Heartstream has been a pioneer in the fast-growing field.
