2Nd Mistrial Declared In Kent Kidnapping Case
KENT - For a second time, jurors were unable to reach a verdict in the case of a King County man accused of kidnapping a former high-school classmate, whose bound body was thrown into the Yakima River.
King County Superior Court Judge Deborah Fleck declared a mistrial Friday in the case of Kyle L. Anderson, 23, of Kent. Prosecutors don't know if they will try the case again.
At issue is the 1997 abduction of Les Lemieux. Prosecutors say Anderson helped abduct Lemieux and had drug associates throw him in the river. Lemieux survived.
Anderson's attorney, Clay Terry, says his client only wanted to make a drug deal and had no idea that Aaron Edward Borrero and Michael Vaughn planned to rob Lemieux and try to drown him.
Borrero, 24, of Seattle was convicted in the case and is serving a 23-year sentence for attempted murder. Vaughn, who testified against Anderson, is serving a six-year sentence for kidnapping.
