Tent city for homeless now at its sixth site

Seattle Times staff: Seattle Times news services

SEATTLE - The tent city set up by several dozen homeless people has moved to Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

The church at 5922 Rainier Ave. S. is the sixth location for the tent city since it was established March 31. About 70 people moved to the church grounds Sunday, walking across an alley from their previous site at Rainier Avenue Free Methodist Church. Officials at SHARE/WHEEL, a homeless-advocacy group that is helping to organize the tent city, said tent-city residents plan to leave Sunday for another, larger site. A new location has not been chosen. Church leaders have asked the group to leave by Sunday.
