UW's Stevens cited for hit-run, reckless driving

Tight end Jerramy Stevens of Washington was cited yesterday for reckless driving and hit-and-run, police say.
Authorities say his truck crashed into the Merrill Gardens retirement home late Thursday night. No one was injured, but the vehicle smashed into a room where a 93-year-old woman was sleeping, KING-TV reported last night. The truck then drove off. Witnesses said the driver appeared to be drunk.
Police later tracked the license-plate number to Stevens' home.
Mike Hunsinger, Stevens' attorney, did not immediately return a phone message left by The Seattle Times.
If Stevens were convicted, charges of reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident could bring a maximum year in jail and $1,000 fine, KING reported.
"I'm disappointed in the recent events and will have a team meeting in the near future to discuss the importance of behavior, making good decisions and citizenship within our campus community," Husky Coach Rick Neuheisel said in a statement.
Stevens, who will be a junior next fall, is Washington's top returning offensive player.
The incident came the same week ex-UW linebacker Jeremiah Pharms was charged with first-degree robbery.
