2,000 are graduating from Eastside colleges
Three Eastside colleges will graduate nearly 2,000 students in ceremonies this weekend.
• Mona Lee Locke, Washington's first lady, will speak at commencement ceremonies at Bellevue Community College tonight. The college, which serves more than 21,000 students each quarter, will award 1,700 degrees and certificates this year. The ceremony will be at 7 p.m. in the BCC gymnasium, 3000 Landerholm Circle S.E.
BCC offers associate's degrees, education certificates and continuing-education programs in the traditional arts, humanities and sciences, as well as information technology, telecommunications, business, health sciences, social sciences, educational development, and other professional and technical fields.
• King County Executive Ron Sims will speak at Lake Washington Technical College's ceremony at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Bellevue's Meydenbauer Center, 11100 N.E. Sixth St.
The Kirkland college, which serves about 10,000 students annually, will award 165 degrees and certificates.
• Elizabeth Miller will address graduates of Bothell's Cascadia Community College at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Meydenbauer Center. Miller is one of 37 members of the college's class of 2001, its first, and attends University of Washington, Bothell, which shares a campus with Cascadia.
Cascadia, the newest community college in Washington, will award 135 degrees and certificates. It offers two-year degrees, certificate programs, continuing-education courses, professional training and business-specific programs.
