QB road Mapping the travels of great UW quarterbacks
Seattle Times staff
Mark Brunell
Brunell started on the UW team that beat Iowa in the 1991 Rose Bowl, the first Huskies Rose Bowl team since 1982. He threw and ran for two touchdowns to take home the game's MVP award. The team finished No. 5 in each poll, its highest ranking since finishing No. 2 in 1984. In his 10-year professional career, Brunell ranks third — behind Warren Moon and Chris Chandler — in NFL passing yards by a former Husky (22,521). He starts for Jacksonville.
Billy Joe Hobert
All anyone needs to know about Hobert's playing days at the UW is that the Huskies were 27-0 in games he played in, 23 as quarterback and four as punter. Of course, this includes the co-national championship season of 1991, in which he took over the starting spot after Brunell injured his knee in spring practice. In the 1992 Rose Bowl, Hobert threw for two TDs and ran for another in being named MVP.
Brock Huard
The Puyallup native is the Huskies' all-time leader in passing yards (5,742) and TD passes (51). He took the UW to three straight bowl games, including a 51-32 beating of Michigan State in the 1997 Aloha Bowl. He also holds the UW record for most TD passes in a season (23 in 1997). A third-round pick by the Seahawks in the 1999 NFL draft, Huard was traded to Indianapolis this past spring.
There isn't much this guy didn't do. The UW hadn't been to a bowl game since 1964 before Moon took it to the 1978 Rose Bowl, beating Michigan 27-20 in a major upset. Moon ran for two TDs and threw for another on his way to the MVP award. Moon is also the all-time leader in passing yards (70,553) and TD passes (435) for a pro. In six years with Edmonton of the Canadian Football League, he won five Grey Cups (1978-82). Moon was named to nine NFL Pro Bowl teams, including a QB-record eight straight (1988-95).
Marques Tuiasosopo
Tuiasosopo was the leader of the UW team that finished No. 3 in 2000, the Huskies' highest ranking since probation. He's the only player in NCAA history to run for 200 yards and pass for 300 yards in a game. Tuiasosopo was picked by Oakland in the third round of the 2001 NFL draft and now serves as the Raiders' No. 2 quarterback.
