Spotlight: Ballard High School
Address: 1418 NW 65 St., Seattle, WA 98117
School district: Seattle
Mascot: Beavers
School colors: Red and black
Enrollment: 1,601 in grades 10-12
League/Class: KingCo 4A
When it opened: 1901
Biggest rival: Roosevelt
Notable alumni: George Irvine, a former University of Washington, ABA and NBA player, and ex-coach of the Detroit Pistons; Paul Enquist, gold-medal-winning rower in the 1984 Summer Olympics; Karsten Solheim, who developed PING golf clubs; distance runner Gail Volk.
Last state championship: The Beavers have never won a state title.
What's unique: In 1999, Ballard High was renovated and now has brand-new facilities on the original site. Now, more students request Ballard than any other Seattle Public School, and rising enrollment led it to move from the Class 3A Metro League to KingCo 4A.
