Holy Names first among high-school crews
The Holy Names Academy crew finished first among girls high-school crews in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta this past weekend in Boston.
The Head of the Charles is one of the most famous regattas in the United States and attracts crews and scullers of all ages from throughout North America.
Holy Names beat all other high-school crews in the Youth 8 Women's Division. The 46-boat division also included some college crews because the age limit was 19-and-under, and Holy Names was fifth overall. Holy Names is coached by Rome Ventura. The lineup was: coxswain, Caitlin Goodrich; stroke, Claire Arpin; rowers, Allie Savio, Gwynedd Rzegocki, Kate Bradley, Maria Lysen, Lizzie Jennings, Molly George and Kate Sortun.
Other top-10 finishes by local crews: Club 8 Women, Lake Union Crew, second; Championship 4 Women, UW, fourth; Masters 8 Men, Pocock Rowing Center, sixth; Masters 8 Women, Conibear Rowing Club, seventh; Youth 8 Men, Green Lake Crew, ninth.
