Where to find unique gifts

Trademark, running through Jan. 3 at Area 51, 401 E. Pine St., Seattle, and Rummage, held Sunday and Dec. 15 at Nation, 1921 Fifth Ave., Seattle, are not the only venues to find products by local artists.

Here is a sampling:

• Hello Gorgeous, 411 E. Pine St., Seattle. Racks of vintage clothes dominate the window, but the fun stuff is on the shelves, including Sam Trout's Lula coasters; glam toilet seats encrusted with pictures, glitter and rhinestones; and Paul Frank goodies. 206-621-0702.

• Lipstick Traces, 500 E. Pine St., Seattle. Books, cool purses, delicious lotions and other gift ideas abound. But check the walls; the store regularly grants gallery space to area artists, whose work is usually as affordable as it is chic. 206-329-2813.

• Damsel Collective, 2222 Second Ave., Seattle. The store culls its inventory from independent designers hailing from the Northwest, L.A. and New York. It also features regular exhibits of artwork like "Unbuckled," a display of artsy belt buckles running through this weekend. On the walls are portraits by Kynan Antos, and on the shelves, a pillow bearing a Kinoko illustration, and a utility box by DJ Hubba Hubba. 206-374-8669.

• Fotos and Frocks, 780 N. 73rd St. at Linden Ave., Seattle. Crystalyn Brennan's jewelry shares the space with scarves, remade and original fashions, locally produced photography, notecards and throw pillows, some made out of gas-station-attendant uniforms. The store's Bath Vivant products, scented to smell like cosmopolitans, mojitos and other drinks, are the top sellers. 206-285-9377.

• Frank & Dunya, 3418 Fremont Ave. N., Seattle. A great stop on a rainy day, this store's splashy glass products, jewelry, textiles and art by Northwesterners are just a few of the baubles that hypnotize you into wandering aimlessly through the store. Little wonder they've been in Seattle for more than a decade! 206-547-6760.

• Vain, 2018 First Ave. Seattle's famous iconoclastic beauty salon hosts Altar Ego, a holiday installation that invites the participating artists to create altars to some part of their egos — not, we hope, the expensive parts. 206-441-3441.
