Rose Bowl moments: Ohio State 10, Oregon 7 (1958)
So inspired was the Ducks' effort in this one that Oregon fans often speak of it as if it were a UO victory.
Oregon entered the game 7-3 and had lost to both Washington and Oregon State. In Ohio State, it was facing a No. 1 team, and the Ducks were a huge underdog.
It didn't play out that way. The teams sparred through three quarters, even at 7-7 before OSU's Don Sutherin kicked a 34-yard field goal in the first minute of the final period. The Ducks had two deep penetrations into Buckeyes territory in the second half, but didn't score.
Oregon outgained the Woody Hayes-coached Bucks 351-304. The Ducks' quarterback, Jack Crabtree, was a rare player-of-the-game selection from a losing team.
