Mummified man's body is taken off noose

OLYMPIA — A man's body, hanging from a noose about 35 feet in the air, was retrieved from a cedar tree yesterday morning, about a year after it was first seen.

An unidentified man told Olympia police late Tuesday night that he had noticed the body about a year ago, in a heavily wooded area west of Fones Road, but didn't report it because there were outstanding warrants for his arrest.

On Tuesday, he returned to the area with friends and saw that the body was still there. The corpse had become mummified, said Thurston County Deputy Coroner Terry Harper. Police don't suspect foul play.
