Class1A girls roundup: Brewster reclaims state championship
YAKIMA — Tournament Most Valuable Player Jeni Boesel scored a game-high 27 points as Brewster dominated the championship game of the Class 1A girls state basketball tournament last night, defeating Tonasket 59-38 at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Brewster (25-4) won its third girls title in four years after finishing second last season. Tonasket (23-5) earned its highest finish in state-tournament play.
"Give me the toughest bracket (in the tournament) every year, I don't care," said Brewster Coach Bryan Boesel. "You have to beat the best to win this thing, and we certainly had to do that."
"That's not too shabby," added Jeni Boesel, Bryan Boesel's niece, who sank three three-pointers and finished with a 10-for-17 shooting performance. "I'm very fortunate to have played with these girls for four years."
Boesel finished with 10 rebounds and three assists.
Tonasket had beaten Brewster twice earlier this season, knocking the Bears out of the No. 1 state ranking.
