Class B girls roundup: Lind-Ritzville caps perfect season for state B crown
SPOKANE — Jessica Heidenreich scored 22 points and Tiffany Starring had 18 points and 10 rebounds as Lind-Ritzville beat defending champion St. George's 58-55 last night for the girls Class B state basketball title.
The Broncos (28-0) will play in the 1A classification next season.
Brie Davis led St. George's (28-3) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Mari Bingham added 17 points, but key guard Angela Gimeno got into foul trouble and was held scoreless.
Other games
Tekoa-Oakesdale 58, Almira-Coulee-Hartline 52 — Michelle Faunce scored 14 points as Tekoa-Oakesdale beat Almira-Coulee-Hartline for third place.
Kayla LaRue added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Nighthawks (23-5). Mallory Puckett had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Sheena Henderson had 14 points and nine rebounds while Bailee Clark added 14 points and six rebounds for Almira-Coulee-Hartline (19-9), which placed sixth.
The Nighthawks went scoreless in the final four minutes until Jessica Teal made two free throws with 5.5 seconds to play.
ACH didn't score again after Clark's three-pointer trimmed the margin to 56-52 with 2:08 remaining. Turnovers plagued both teams late.
Kittitas 55, Naselle 37 — Katie Hart had 14 points, seven steals, six rebounds and five assists to lead Kittitas to a win over Naselle in the fourth-place game.
Cristina Bruketta added 19 points for the Coyotes (27-1), who led 31-30 before outscoring the Comets 24-7 in the fourth quarter.
Tiffany Pauley had 13 points and seven rebounds for Naselle (24-3). The Comets, who had 25 turnovers yesterday, lost three of their last five games to finish seventh.
Mount Vernon Christian 57, Waterville 47 — Sarah Kuipers scored 21 points to lead Mount Vernon Christian to a 57-47 victory over Waterville in the fifth-place game.
Jamie Orange had 15 points and seven rebounds while Holly Braun scored 14 points for the Hurricanes (25-3), who lost to second-ranked Lind-Ritzville 49-48 in the first round.
Kassie Ludeman scored 18 points and Deena Hanson had 15 for Waterville (21-9), which placed eighth.
A basket by Hanson pulled Waterville to 42-40 at 4:40 to play but the Hurricanes responded with a 9-0 run, highlighted by Orange's three-pointer from the right corner.
