Locals win crew medals
MUNICH, Germany — Rowers Sarah Jones of Stanwood and Anna Mickelson of Bellevue helped the United States win gold medals in the women's quadruple sculls and women's eight yesterday at the latest Bearing Point World Cup stop.
Jones' quadruple sculls boat won in 6 minutes, 33.04 seconds, 1.39 seconds ahead of Germany.
Mickelson, a former rower at Washington, and former UW teammate May Whipple helped the U.S. eight cross the 2,000-meter course in 6:20.46. Germany's A boat couldn't keep up in the final 500 meters and finished 1.17 seconds behind for silver.
Erik Miller of Renton and Eric Feins of Rochester, N.Y. took home bronze in the lightweight men's pair. The pair finished in 7:04.88, behind Denmark in 6:54.73 and Germany in 7:01.20.

• Anne Browning of Seattle's Pocock Rowing Center and partner Carol Skricki won the second semifinal of the women's double sculls at the Pan American Games trials in Indianapolis. Julie Nichols and Ale Phillips, also of Pocock, finished second in the repechage of the lightweight women's double sculls and advanced to today's finals
