Rower earns berth in championships
PRINCETON, N.J. — For the second year in a row, Steve Gillespie of Renton and Brett Wilkinson won the men's double sculls at the World Championships Trials for Olympic-class boats.
Gillespie and Wilkinson completed the course in 6 minutes, 23.6 seconds on the third day of competition yesterday. J. Sloan DuRoss and Conal Groom of Seattle's Pocock Rowing took second in 6:28.1.
Pocock's Carol Skricki and Anne Browning were second in the women's double sculls. The top three finishers advanced to today's second final. The championships are Aug. 24-31 in Milan, Italy.
More Manchester United tickets on sale
The Seattle Sounders announced the release of several hundred face-value tickets to the sold-out Manchester United-Celtic FC match. The game will be July 22nd at 8 p.m. at Seahawks Stadium.

AquaSox above .500
PASCO — The Everett AquaSox got above .500, beating Tri-City 4-3 in Northwest League play. Jeremy Dutton drove in two runs, stole a base and went 3 for 4 for Everett (14-13).
Brandon Moorhead earned his ninth save of the season to take the Northwest League lead.

• Cameron Mackenzie, an Oregon State golfer, fired a 5-under-par 67 in the opening round to lead stroke-play qualifying by one at the 102nd Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship in Vancouver, Wash.
• The North Corner Tribe, a baseball team constituted of 17- and 18-year-olds, split two second-round, pool-play games at the AAU national tournament in Ft. Myers, Fla.
In Game 1, Shaun Guinn of Mariner High School took the 6-3 loss to a team from Orlando, Fla. In Game 2, Bryant Dailey, also of Mariner, got the 9-8 win over Cincinnati.
