TACOMA — Bellevue captured its third straight Class 3A football crown with a 21-7 victory over O'Dea tonight at the Tacoma Dome.
O'Dea's Michael Rittman scored on a 1-yard run at the beginning of the fourth quarter, making the score 14-7 Bellevue. But the Fighting Irish couldn't muster another score with their last three possessions of the game.
To cap off the scoring, Bellevue ran back an interception for a touchdown with less than one minute left in the game.
Earlier, J.R. Hasty scored on a 4-yard run with 7:44 remaining in the first quarter.
The second Bellevue touchdown was scored by Tracy Ford, also in the first quarter.
More details to come later.
Class B-8 Championship:
Lacrosse-Washtucna 60, Jubilee Christian 20
Ryan Doorman caught three touchdown passes and sophomore running back Kevin Dainty rushed for 207 yards as Lacrosse-Washtucna beat Jubilee Christian 60-20 today to win its second consecutive Class B-8 state football championship.
It was the second time the Tigercats (12-0) defeated the Warriors (10-2) this season. This one wasn't much different from the first matchup, a 46-0 rout early in the season.
Despite the earlier drubbing, Jubilee Christian's defense was confident before the game. The Warriors were coming off a 30-6 upset over top-ranked Clallam Bay in the semifinals, and they had shut out three of their previous four opponents before giving up the late score to Clallam Bay last week.
That didn't seem to matter.
Dainty led the Tigercats' offense with powerful inside running. He rushed 23 times and scored on a 10-yard run. He also broke off a 70-yard run.
When Jubilee Christian focused on stopping the run, Lacrosse-Washtucna caught the Warriors off guard with the pass. Doorman caught touchdown passes of 10 yards, 10 yards and 50 yards from quarterback Justin McKenzie.
Leading 8-6 in the first quarter, Lacrosse-Washtucna broke the game open with three unanswered touchdowns. Adam Whitman scored on an 11-yard run, then caught a 43-yard scoring pass on a reverse flea-flicker from Matt Martin. Craig Koller capped the scoring outburst with a 13-yard touchdown run making the score 32-8 Lacrosse-Washtucna.
Marcus Parks scored on a 1-yard run for Jubilee Christian to cut the lead to 32-14 just before halftime.
Orlando Thomas cut the lead to 32-20 with a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The Tigercats then scored four consecutive touchdowns to put the game away.
Thomas led Jubilee Christian with 88 yards rushing on 6 carries and Parks caught 2 passes for 57 yards.
