February focus on black history
Marjorie Pitter King
Daughter of Seattle pioneers Edward and Marjorie Pitter, Marjorie Pitter King (1921-1996) became the first African-American woman to serve as a state legislator in Washington when, in 1965, she was appointed to complete the term of 37th District Rep. Ann O'Donnell, a fellow Democrat. King served until the end of the term, in 1966.
Also a prominent businesswoman, King ran M & M Accounting and Tax Service in Seattle for 48 years.
