February focus on black history

Edwin Pratt

Executive director of the Seattle Urban League, Edwin Pratt was assassinated on Jan. 26, 1969. He was struck by a shotgun blast as he stood in the doorway of his home in Shoreline. The murder remains unsolved.

Pratt was widely respected as a leader in the fight for integrated housing and education in Seattle. A park at East Yesler Way and 20th Avenue S.E. was named for him in 1976.
