O'Malley fight to be televised nationally
NEW YORK — Boxing returns to network television for a second straight year with a series of five Saturday cards beginning April 17 on NBC.
The first card on April 17 will feature Juan Diaz of Houston (23-0, 11 knockouts) against Martin O'Malley (21-2-1, 14 knockouts) of Edmonds in a 10-round lightweight contest. The fights will air for five straight weeks.

Olson named UW assistant soccer coach
Matthew Olson, a former professional and collegiate goalkeeper, has been named assistant coach for the Washington men's soccer team, coach Dean Wurzberger announced.
Olson, a Renton native, will be the Huskies' goalkeepers' coach. He previously served on Wurzberger's staff from 1992 to 1996.
Olson, who played collegiate ball at Indiana and Wake Forest, also played for Major League Soccer's D.C. United.
Players of the week
Ryan Diggs, Western Washington men's basketball, Great Northwest Athletic Conference — Diggs, a sophomore who shared the honor with Alaska Fairbanks guard Brad Oleson, had 24 points against Central Washington and 15 points and a career-high 11 assists against Saint Martin's.
Kevin Olson, CWU baseball, GNAC: The right-hander was named pitcher of the week after pitching six innings in the Wildcats' 7-0 win against Whitman.
Notes
• The WWU men's golf team was seventh with a 36-hole total of 587 entering the final round of the Cal State Bakersfield Invitational Tournament at the Seven Oaks Country Club.
• Paulette Martin, assistant women's basketball coach at Shoreline Community College, was inducted into the Purdue University-Indianapolis Hall of Fame. Martin played for Purdue-Indianapolis from 1986 to 1990.
Martin ranks third in career field goals made (544), seventh in field goals attempted (1,121) and third in field-goal percentage at .485.
• Robert Meenk, 42, and Luanne Mills, 65, of Seattle's Pocock Rowing Center, won at the CRASH-B World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston on Sunday. Meenk won the lightweight senior men's singles, and Mills won the veteran women's lightweight singles (ages 60-69).
