Bumps Blackwell
Garfield High School alumnus Robert "Bumps" Blackwell led the Bumps Blackwell Junior Band here during the late 1940s. The band included several Garfield students, including Quincy Jones.
After leaving Seattle in the early 1950s, Blackwell became a successful rock 'n' roll producer and songwriter, producing records for Little Richard and Sam Cooke, among other artists. He wrote (or co-wrote) many hits, including "All Shook Up," "Rip It Up," "Tutti Frutti" and "Long Tall Sally."
