Nimocks quits as Seattle U. volleyball coach
Steve Nimocks has resigned as Seattle University volleyball coach.
Said Nimocks: "Personally, I feel like I need a break from coaching, and the team needs somebody that has the energy to build on what we have done and take the program to the next level."
Nimocks built the program from scratch and was 55-68 in five seasons.
Lower Columbia wins NWAACC men's title
KENNEWICK — For the first time since 1954, Lower Columbia won the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges men's basketball title with a 73-68 victory in double overtime against Mount Hood.
Steven Trotter led four Red Devils (26-5) in double figures with 20 points. Gregg Barlow scored 22 for the Saints (21-9).
Clackamas breezed past Chemeketa 55-36 to win its first women's title. The Cougars (26-4) were led by Cindy Alldrin, who scored 22 and grabbed seven rebounds. The Storm (22-8), which shot 3 for 34 in the second half, got 17 points from Annie Hartle.
Notes
• Starfire Sports Complex, the 54-acre facility situated on the grounds of the former Fort Dent Park in Tukwila, is the official training home of the Seattle Sounders.
• Whitworth's Tiffany Speer of Snohomish was picked Northwest Conference women's basketball player of the year. Also on the first team were Lindsay May of Puget Sound, Courtney Johnson of Pacific Lutheran, Katie Patneaude of Whitman and Sarah Shogren of Whitworth. For the men, Matt Glynn of Puget Sound was player of the year, and Bryan Depew of Whitworth was on the first team.
• Gonzaga juniors Ashley Burke and Shannon Mathews were named first team All-West Coast Conference along with Portland's Khalila O'Rielly-Williams of Holy Names and Santa Clara's Quinn Thomas of Kent-Meridian.
• Sammamish Rowing Association's Sue Dandridge of Bothell won a silver medal at the World Indoor Rowing championships in Boston.
