Jarvis has pitched for six major-league teams in nine seasons — Cincinnati (1994-97), Detroit ('97), Minnesota ('97), Oakland ('99), Colorado (2000) and San Diego (2001-03).

Jarvis had Tommy John elbow surgery in 2002. "It's been a few years since I felt this good," he said. "... It was very frustrating. I wanted to play through it, I wanted to pitch as much as I could. But I couldn't."
