Kudos: Recognizing Eastsiders for their achievements
Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival: Several Bellevue school bands won Outstanding Young Artist awards for festival performances at the University of Idaho on Feb. 25-29. Winners include Newport High School for Outstanding AAA Band I and Tyee Middle School for Outstanding Middle School Band. Jenny Kellogg of Newport High School received the award for Outstanding Trombone Solo, and Sammamish High School was named Outstanding Multi-Mic Choir. The Bellevue Community College vocal jazz ensemble "Celebration!" won in the College Multi-Mic Division. Runners-up included Bothell High School for Outstanding AAAA Band II and Overlake School in Redmond for Outstanding B Band.
Eagle Scout Ryan Kyle will be recognized by Eastside Fire and Rescue today during the board of directors meeting at 5:30 p.m. for his efforts to provide address signs to homeowners whose numbers were not clearly visible in remote, rural areas near Duvall and Carnation.
Nickolas Franek of Cascadia Community College and Chris Franz and Angel Kelchev of Bellevue Community College were nominated to represent their schools on the annual All-Washington Academic Team. Students will receive scholarships from the Northwest Education Loan Association and Key Bank and a medallion from Gov. Gary Locke during a ceremony at noon Friday in the Student Union Building at the South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia.
