Monorail, transit taxes are itemized deductions

The Seattle monorail tax you paid in 2003 can be itemized and deducted from taxable income on Internal Revenue Service Form 1040, reducing your federal income-tax bill. Enter it on Schedule A, Line 7, as "Personal Property Taxes." It is a considered a property tax because it is calculated based on the value of the vehicle.

Similarly, the Sound Transit car-tab tax, listed on license-tab renewal notices in urban Snohomish, King and Pierce counties as "RTA Excise," can be deducted on the same form. However, the state's flat $30 state car-tab fee and processing fees for car tabs are nondeductible.
