Museum: Stanwood Area History Museum & D.O. Pearson House, 27112 102nd Ave. N.W., Stanwood, 360-629-6110. Hours: Wednesday and Sundays 1 to 4 p.m., Fridays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Activities:
• Out On A Limb Orchids, 353 E. North Camano Drive, Camano Island; www.outonalimborchids.com or 360-387-2341. Weeklong open house the first week in May and open Mother's Day weekend, otherwise by appointment. Watch for their new lavender farm and retail orchids.
• Alpacas de la Patagonia has regularly scheduled tours from mid-June until mid-October at 10 a.m. Fridays but visitors need to call 360-387-9356 or e-mail kb@alpacapatagonia.com in advance. Tour may include walks through alpaca fields, new alpaca babies, finished alpaca products and sometimes shearing (www.alpacapatagonia.com). The farm is visible from the road, to the right of Camano Plaza, which is 3 miles to the left from where the road to Camano Island splits at Terry's Corner.
• Serenity Herb Gardens, a retail herb farm, with a train ride and tea garden (bring your own lunch), is located at 630 Dodge Road. Open 9 to 6 p.m. May 7-9 for visitors or by appointment. E-mail serenityherbs@yahoo.com or call 360-387-0727.
• Camano Climb 2004, May 2, supports 25- and 43-mile bicycle rides around the perimeter of Camano Island. Pre-registration postmarked by tomorrow (April 23) $20. Day of ride: $25. • Mother's Day Sail, May 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Camano Island State Park, a "rustic adventure" sponsored by the Center for Wooden Boats; requires some agility to step from rowboat to sailboat; wear waterproof shoes and dress warmly. Limited number of boats. The Center will have a second campus at Cama Beach State Park when it opens in 2006. Call 206-382-2628.
• The Stanwood Camano Community Fair, said to be the largest community fair in the Northwest, which dates back to 1932, will be held Aug. 6-8. See www.stanwoodcamanofair.com or call 360-629-4121.
