Golf
For women and youths, opportunity is out there
|
Many women and youngsters are interested in learning how to play golf, but aren't sure where to get lessons at reasonable prices.
Some of the best advice is to call driving ranges and golf courses in your area and ask what they offer. Remember that classes and group lessons are always cheaper than individual lessons. Many ranges and courses also offer summer camps for youngsters.
Some other offerings:
For women:
• The Executive Women's Golf Association has beginner and mentorship programs. This organization is much more "plain folks" than its name. The Seattle Web site is www.ewgaseattle.org and the hotline is 206-781-5813. The association is open to all women.
• The Northwest Ladies Golf Association offers similar programs to the Executive Women's Golf Association. Its Web site is www.nlga.net and the hotline is 206-729-4888.
• Interbay Golf Center in Seattle has Wednesday sessions for women that include instruction, range balls and dinner for $27.50. For more information, call 206-285-2200.
For youngsters:
• First Tee of Greater Seattle offers programs, and the target audience is youngsters who haven't been exposed to the game. Scholarships are available for families that can't afford the nine-week summer program. For information, call 1-866-858-5678 (toll free). The Web site is www.thefirstteegreaterseattle.com.
• LPGA-USGA Girls Golf is a program for girls 6-18 at Mount Si Golf Course. For information, call Shelley French at 425-868-5663.
