November's weather tally: All systems were normal

Seattle Times staff

Weather in November was business as usual.

"We had a very normal month as far as temperatures go," said Jay Neher, meteorologist at the National Weather Service office at Sand Point.

The average high in November was 50.2 degrees; the 30-year average for the month is 50.5 degrees. The average low was 39.7, compared with a normal average of 39.9 degrees.

A little more than 3 inches of rain fell in November, with the most — .89 inches — on Nov. 2.

Rainfall this year — 26.85 inches — is almost 5 inches below the average, 31.44 inches.

Neher said a high-pressure ridge that lasted longer than usual kept some frontal systems from passing through, which meant less rainfall.

The below-average rainfall is not a problem for Seattle's watersheds, said Sheila Strehle, a Seattle Public Utilities spokeswoman. Strehle said the water levels in the Cedar River and Tolt River reservoirs are in fact a bit high, which she attributed to the city's good flood management there.

Besides, the lack of rainfall last month could be made up quickly because forecasters call for showers for the next four days.
