NW briefs: Huskies fend off Cal rally

Washington's Kyle Parker (6-4) held California to two runs over 7-2/3 innings, and Matt Hague drove in two runs on three hits as the Huskies baseball team beat California, 5-4, yesterday at Husky Ballpark.

Washington (23-13, 4-4 Pac-10) has won 19 of its last 25 games.

Down 5-2 entering the ninth inning, the Bears (23-16, 5-6) mounted a comeback off UW reliever Brandon McKerney. With one on and one out, right fielder Jeremy Burchett belted a homer into the Cal bullpen in left field. But UW's David Dowling and Josh Conover came on to retire one batter each to end the game.

Brent Lillibridge, who went 2 for 4 with a double, extended his hitting streak to 13 games, longest of the year by a Husky.
