NW briefs: Huskies softball stuns No. 10 UCLA, 2-1
Lauren Greer hit a two-run home run as the No. 23 Washington softball team upset No. 10 UCLA 2-1 yesterday in Westwood, Calif.
The Huskies (22-15, 4-6 Pac-10) took the lead for good in the second inning as Sarah Hyatt walked and Greer hit her second homer of the season.
UW starter Caitlin Noble (10-7) held the Bruins to one run on six hits and struck out eight in seven innings.
The Bruins (24-11, 5-5) scored their only run in the fifth inning. Kristen Dedmond led off with a solo homer off of Noble to right-center field.
Track and field
The Willamette men and women each won their fourth straight title at the Northwest Conference championships in McMinnville, Ore.
The Bearcats men scored 274 points, followed by Linfield (130 ½) and Pacific Lutheran (98.5). The Willamette women scored 225 ½ points, followed by Whitworth (125).
Tennis
UW senior Alex Vlaski set a school record with his 109th singles win. Vlaski, playing at the Pac-10 championships in Ojai, Calif., reached the title match with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win over California's Conor Niland.
On the women's side, Washington State sophomore Amy Toth advanced to the singles final by beating Arizona State's Jessica Leitch 6-0, 6-4. UW senior Dea Sumantri and junior Dinka Hadzic fell 8-0 to Stanford's Alice Barnes and Anne Yelsey in the doubles semifinals.
Crew
The Western Washington women won the varsity eight race and won the team title at the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference Championships on Lake Stevens.
The Vikings eight, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II, completed the 2,000-meter course in 6 minutes, 41 seconds. Defending champion Puget Sound was second in 6:42.2.
The UPS men won five races, including the varsity eight, to win the team title. Seattle Pacific's Carly Bollen and Andi Martineau won the varsity pair.
• The Washington State women fell in the varsity eight race but won the second varsity eight and varsity four races in a dual against Tennessee on Fort Lake Loudon in Knoxville, Tenn.
Baseball
At Central Washington 13, NNU 3
CWU 5, NNU 2
In Game 2, senior Troy Martin broke the CWU single-season runs-batted-in record, reaching 54 with a two-run triple in the third. CWU improved to 23-18, 5-7 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. The Crusaders fell to 16-21, 3-9.

The Vikings (15-14, 9-3 GNAC) had 13 hits and 10 runs in the opener, both tying season highs. Megan McPhee scored two runs and batted in two more for WWU. Central (22-17, 14-4) saw its six-game win streak snapped.
St. Martin's 4, at Northwest Nazarene 2

In Game 1, Elise Mayes and Krishanna Nass hit back-to-back doubles in the third inning to give the Saints (10-27, 4-15 GNAC) a 1-0 lead.
In Game 2, the Saints led 4-0 after three innings and hung on to win. Tana Lingl (7-12) got the win, allowing no runs in five innings and surrendering one of three NNU (9-37, 1-19) hits.
At Pacific Lutheran 8, Puget Sound 1
PLU 10, UPS 3
Gretchen Ruecker hit a grand slam for the Lutes (21-13, 14-10 Northwest Conference) in Game 1. Maren Buck's homer provided the only offense for UPS (15-16, 8-12) in Game 2.
