Seattle rowers triumph
Anne Browning of Seattle's Pocock Rowing Center and Caryn Davies won the championship women's double sculls title at the 41st annual Head of the Charles regatta on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass.
The Pocock Rowing Center double, who also represented Radcliffe Alumnae, joined Seattle master's crews from the Lake Washington Rowing Club, Conibear Rowing Club and Martha's Mom's Rowing Club to win their events at the largest two-day annual rowing regatta in the world.
Browning and Davies rowed the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 38.34 seconds.
Another winner from Seattle was Susan Kinne of the Lake Washington Rowing Club in the senior masters double sculls for women aged 50 and older. Kinne and partner Joan Linse of Corvallis, was clocked in 20:32.72.
In the senior masters fours for women 50 and older, Seattle's Conibear Rowing Club, Martha's Moms Rowing Club of Seattle and the Seattle Yacht Club finished 1-2-3 in a 15-crew field.
Conibear clocked 20:33.681 to successfully defend its title.
In the senior masters eights for women 50 and older, Martha's Mom's defeated the Lake Union Crew, the defending champion, by just over two seconds.
Martha's Moms' time was 19:08.17.
In the masters eights for men 40 and older, defending champion Pocock Rowing Center was edged by Philadelphia's Penn AC Rowing Club.
The only college crew from Washington in the regatta was the Washington State varsity women, who finished 10th in the championship eight event.
