Regional Sports Roundup: UW baseball downs UCLA
Freshman reliever Bryce Mooney pitched 4-2/3 innings of one-hit relief for the victory, and Washington got homers from Curt Rindal and Matt Stevens on the way to defeating UCLA, 4-1, Sunday at Husky Ballpark.
The Huskies (20-11, 3-3 Pac-10) won the series, two games to one.
In the bottom of the second, first baseman Rindal extended his hitting streak to 20 games when he led off the inning with his sixth home run of the season.

In the bottom of the fourth, Rindal singled, stole second and scored on a two-out single from Stevens, giving the UW a 2-0 lead. Stevens homered in the sixth to finish the game 2 for 4 with three runs batted in.
Other baseball
Pacific Lutheran collected 15 hits, 14 walks and two hit batters to roll to an 18-6 nonconference victory over Menlo in Tacoma. David Fox went 3 for 3 with five RBI for the Lutes (15-11).
• Whitworth (14-12, 8-4) defeated Whitman (0-24, 0-15) 16-6 and 11-0 in a doubleheader in Spokane. The first game was the completion of a contest suspended by rain on Saturday.
• Gonzaga (20-10, 3-0 West Coast Conference) withstood a late Portland rally and swept the three-game weekend series with a 5-4 victory in Spokane.
• Central Washington (10-12, 0-2) dropped its first two games of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference season, falling 7-0 and 4-2 to Western Oregon in Ellensburg.
Men's golf
The 31st-ranked Huskies shot 1-over 289 in the final round at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational in Evans, Ga., finishing in eighth place at 11-over 875. Coastal Carolina won the event with a 10-under 854.
Washington junior Alex Prugh led the Huskies for the sixth time this season, shooting a final-round 1-over 73 to place 19th at 1-over 217. Entering the clubhouse one stroke back was Erik Olson, whose 2-over 74 placed him 22nd.
Women's golf
Washington State's Anastasia Kostina picked up her ninth consecutive top 25 finish at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. She fired a final-round 3-over 75 to finish tied for 21st.
Amber Prange and Kim Shin were the top finishers for Washington, tying for 40th.
The 24th-ranked Huskies shot 25-over 313 in the final round to finish 15th, and Washington State tied for 13th.
• Gonzaga finished fifth at the Hoya Invitational in Leesburg, Va., with a two-round total of 644. The Bulldogs' Lacey Jo Manwaring entered the final round tied for ninth but fell to a three-way tie for 19th after an 82.
Women's tennis
Washington (2-13) fell to 23rd-ranked TCU 7-0 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Horned Frogs swept doubles play, and the only Husky to take a set in singles was freshman Victoria Brymer, who lost 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 in the third slot.
Track and field
Former Viking Josh Freeman leads the decathlon with 3,463 points, and Adele Johns is the leader in the heptathlon after first-day action at the Western Washington Spring Forward Multi-Events meet in Bellingham.
Freeman, who is competing unattached, represented Western while winning the event last two years.
Johns, a member of the Richmond Kajaks Track Club, has 2,516 points after the first four events of the heptathlon.
Rowing
For the second time in three years, the Gonzaga men's varsity crew won the Cal Cup Petite Final at the San Diego Crew Classic. The Bulldogs also won the event in 2004.
The Bulldogs picked up a three-second win over Washington State, finishing in 6 minutes, 5.50 seconds.

• The Sean Beighton rink (Sean Beighton, Derrick McLean, Ian McLean, Joe Purvis) from Seattle's Granite Curling Club won the bronze medal Sunday at the 2006 Optimist International Under-18 Championships in Calgary, Alberta. In the bronze-medal match, Team Washington broke open a defensive game with three points in the seventh end for a 4-2 victory over British Columbia.
