NW Briefs: Huskies beat Cougs, even baseball series
Zach Clem scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the 13th inning as the Washington baseball team beat Washington State 5-4 Saturday to even their three-game Pac-10 series at Husky Ballpark.
Washington (35-25, 10-13) scored two in the ninth to force extra innings. After WSU (36-22, 10-13) scored in the top of the 10th, the Huskies scored again to keep the game alive.
Clem singled to open the 13th, his third hit of the game, and got to third on a sacrifice and a wild pitch. Cougars pitcher Nick Cebula had an 0-2 count on UW's Brett Kaluza when Cebula bounced his pitch past catcher Zach Franklin, allowing Clem to score.
Jared Prince hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Cougars. Andy Lentz hit a solo homer in the sixth for UW.
Matt Hague homered leading off the ninth to cut the Cougars' lead to 3-2. Clem's run-scoring single tied it.
In the top of the 10th, Travis Coulter's run-scoring single put WSU back on top 4-3.
But Hague's run-scoring double tied the game for UW.
Today's 1 p.m. game ends the regular season.
