NW Briefs: Local rowers win third national title
Local rowers Anaya Drew and Andrea Ryan were on the University of Wisconsin lightweight eight women's boat that won a third consecutive national title over the weekend at the International Rowing Association (IRA) Collegiate Rowing National Championships on the Cooper River in New Jersey.
Drew graduated from Garfield High School in 2002 and rowed for the Mt. Baker rowing club, and Ryan graduated from University Prep in 2002 and rowed for the Green Lake rowing club.
Both seniors rowed on the Wisconsin lightweight eight during all three championship years.
Gymnasts win
Rebecka Serda, Selena Chen, Amanda Schultze and Cindy Lo captured all-around titles at the U.S. Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior Olympic Championships at Edmonds Community College last weekend.
Serda, of Isadora's in New York, won the Level 8 final with a score of 43.8.
Chen, of Stars & Stripes Gymnastics Academy in Clarkston, Mich., and Schultze, of North Shore Rhythmics, tied for the Level 7 title with scores of 37.
Lo, of Twin City Rhythmics, won the Level 6 final with a 30.95.
