Walla Walla Sweet Onions a best bet at farmers markets

Season: Midsummer through September.

How to select: Look for onions that are dry and firm. Sweet onions are usually more delicate than other varieties and can deteriorate quickly. Check root ends for dampness and mold.

How to handle: Store in a loosely woven bag in a cool, dark place with good ventilation. Do not store under the sink or with potatoes, which can give off moisture. The onions can also be refrigerated, but not wrapped in plastic, in the vegetable drawer.

Goes with: cucumbers, tomatoes, hot chilies; oranges, water-

melon; pine nuts; olives; mint, rosemary; burgers, beef, salmon > Recipes on E2
