Tribute to Tabor 100
Many fine organizations labor under relative anonymity doing good work around Seattle. Tabor 100 is one of them and its recognition is long overdue.
The African-American business group came into existence as a tribute to the late Langston Tabor, an entrepreneur and mentor to business leaders. What began as homage has blossomed into an influential business group with members tied into every critical endeavor in the city, from early-childhood education programs to the city's many economic-development efforts.
The University of Washington's Business and Economic Development Center gave the organization one of its highest awards for developing educational, consulting and partnership programs designed to increase the number of large minority-owned businesses. Tabor 100 also helps the UW Business School identify MBA candidates of color and it provides members as lecturers at the Business School.
On Saturday, the group hosts its seventh annual "Captains of Industry" gala. The theme, appropriately, is "Celebration for Diversity."
