A Few of My Favorite Things
Portland hotels
Readers tell us about more of their favorite places to stay in the Portland area.
• "I highly recommend the 72nd Avenue Studios at 3415 N.E. 72nd Ave., 503-288-8501, www.72ndavenuestudios.com, just off Sandy Boulevard. For $60 or $65, you get a delightful apartment with private garden access in a vintage home owned by Peggy Sullivan, a master gardener who knows where to eat and what to see in Portland."
— Jan Hurd, Poulsbo.
• "Last Spring we navigated by train, MAX and public bus to stay at The Edgefield Manor, 2126 S.W. Halsey St., Troutdale, Ore., 800-669-8610, www.mcmenamins.com, east of Portland and fully enjoyed the European-style bedrooms, claw-foot bathtubs (top floor only), amazing murals and plentiful entertainment options. In one night, we took in a wine tasting (with live cello music), brew-pub specialties and a late movie, all on the premises." — Tauryn Beeman, Seattle.
• "Silver Cloud Inn, 2426 N.W. Vaughn St., 800-205-6939, www.silvercloud.com. This reasonably priced hotel (free breakfast) is located on the industrial edge of the high-rent Nob Hill district. It's easy access from Interstate 5, within a short drive/walk of the trendy 23rd Avenue and very close to Leif Erickson Drive/Wildwood Trail. " — Roy Seliber, Sammamish.
