A woman jumped off the Aurora Bridge at the height of the morning rush hour today and survived.

Seattle police Harbor Patrol picked up the woman in the water after a 7:46 a.m. distress call, said police spokesman Sean Whitcomb. The woman is believed to have been trying to commit suicide, Whitcomb said.

Seattle firefighters were dispatched to the 900 block of North Northlake Way at 7:53 a.m. The woman was treated for critical injuries at the scene and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she was undergoing surgery, according to a Harborview spokeswoman.
