House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, left, holds up an "Environmental Action Agenda" published by the city of Seattle as she sits with Gov. Christine Gregoire during a roundtable discussion following a tour of biodiesel facility in Seattle.
Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on Friday toured a Seattle plant that turns soybean oil into biodiesel, and declared energy independence and global warming vital issues that the Democratic Congress is working to address.
Pelosi, who arrived in Washington earlier Friday, attended a fund-raising event at the Washington Athletic Club to raise money for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, before going to the Duwamish-area plant of Seattle Biodiesel.
There, in an afternoon a closed-door meeting, she sat down with Gov. Christine Gregoire, several Democratic members of Washington's Congressional delegation, King County Executive Ron Sims and Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, as well as several CEO's of alternative energy companies.
Pelosi was then scheduled to speak before a group of roughly 300 to 400 women at Seattle City Hall, before leaving Seattle Friday night.
