NW Briefs | Feenstra, Cassidy tied for Open lead
Two golfers who made a splash in last July's U.S. Public Links Championship are tied for the lead in the Washington Open heading into today's final round at the Glendale Country Club.
Tim Feenstra, the former Western Washington All-American, and John Cassidy of Yelm are tied at 8-under 136.
Feenstra, now an assistant pro at the TPC at Snoqualmie Ridge, shot a second straight 68 while Cassidy, an amateur who played at Nevada, shot a 7-under 65 for the day's best round.
Feenstra was eliminated in the semifinals of the U.S. Public Links at Gold Mountain's Olympic Course outside Bremerton. Cassidy was eliminated in the round of 32.
Former Mariner Erik Hanson shot a 1-under 71 and is tied with ex-Washington Husky Derek Berg for third at 139.
The leaders tee off today at 11:55 a.m.
• Leslie Folsom and Jane Harris of Rainier Golf and Country Club carded a 4-under 67 at Fairwood G&CC in Renton to run away with their fourth WSGA Women's Best-Ball title.

• Pocock Rowing Center's Nicole Sylvester and former UW rower Jonathan Burns advanced to the finals of their single-sculling events with top finishes at the U.S. Pan American Games Rowing Trials on Mercer Lake near Princeton, N.J. The Pan Am Games are July 14-19 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
• Meredith Brunette went 4 for 4, including a home run, and Linfield (45-7) rolled past St. Louis' Washington University, 10-2 in six innings, to win the NCAA Division III softball championship.
• Everett Hawks receiver Josh Richey, who set team records for catches (18) and yards (236) against Quad City last Friday, was named the af2 Offensive Player of the Week.
• Gym East's Jennifer Kesler, 17, of Kenmore won the all-around, vault and bars, and teammate Kelsi Blalock, 15, of Puyallup finished second in all-around at the Junior Olympic National Gymnastics Championships in Mason, Ohio.
