NW Briefs | Feenstra, Cassidy tied for Open lead

Two golfers who made a splash in last July's U.S. Public Links Championship are tied for the lead in the Washington Open heading into today's final round at the Glendale Country Club.

Tim Feenstra, the former Western Washington All-American, and John Cassidy of Yelm are tied at 8-under 136.

Feenstra, now an assistant pro at the TPC at Snoqualmie Ridge, shot a second straight 68 while Cassidy, an amateur who played at Nevada, shot a 7-under 65 for the day's best round.

Feenstra was eliminated in the semifinals of the U.S. Public Links at Gold Mountain's Olympic Course outside Bremerton. Cassidy was eliminated in the round of 32.

Former Mariner Erik Hanson shot a 1-under 71 and is tied with ex-Washington Husky Derek Berg for third at 139.

The leaders tee off today at 11:55 a.m.
